Welcome to the Urban Legion "Quick Guide"! This will get you up to speed on the what you minimally need to know to play the game. To give a fair warning, this guide does give some spoilers, so if you are up to the utmost challenge, you might want to just read the basic information about the game in the other parts of the manual.
The first thing you need to do is sign up and create a character. Making an account is free and extremely easy. From any page, at the top you will see links for creating a new account. Just click on that link and you are on your way.
The only information you will need to provide is your name, email, and the username and password you will use to sign in each time you want to play. It is important to give a valid email and name so we can contact you if there are any issues you need help with.
Once you have created an account, and logged in, you will be brought to the Character Roster page. If you have not created any characters before, the only option you will have is to add a character. Clicking on the 'Add Character' button will bring you to the character creation page. The only items you need to enter here are your character's civilian name, and the iconic name they are known by.
Once you have created a character, or chosen one to play, you will be launched into the world of Urban Legions! The game starts off with your trek to Macropolis. It is now your purpose to find out why, and what is so special about this town. There are an incredible amount of events going on, and the fun has just begun. The Orientation event is where you start out before you reach the main city. It is used to help develop your starting character, and helps you get you used to the interface.
You start the orientation off with a welcome and introduction story. You have a choice to skip it or not, but it is always recommended to do the tutorial for experience and items. It is also important to read whatever story is presented. The game and city is a huge puzzle, and all information presented is usually a clue.
When playing Urban Legions, you will basically be either in a Map mode, or an Event mode. Regardless of what you are doing in the game, there will always be some common elements found on the page.
If you choose to accept the tutorial, you will be presented a map of the tutorial. When you see a map, the list on the left (titled Extra! Extra!) presents the major places you can jump right to. You can either click on the map, or click on an item in the list. You are also free to click anywhere on the map. By exploring around, you will encounter other random and travel events that spark off other story arcs.
When you click on the map, or an item in the event list, you will enter an Event. When starting the tutorial, the only option is the Orientation. When you enter it, you will be presented with the major introduction to the plot, who and where you are. It is very important that you read this! The title at the top will change to something reflecting the type of event you have entered. There are many types of events in Urban Legions. The list on the left now lists your 'Available Actions'. It not only presents some Basic linked actions, but also allows you to choose items and abilities that you might have, and to use them also. The game is very robust, and reacts to many situations. Trial and error are crucial, but paying attention to story detail, and reacting to that, is more important.
By clicking the 'View' link found at the bottom of the screen in the Character Sheet section, the main part of the window will present your character sheet. You can see your main character statistics (Statistics), what you are wearing and using (Equipment), the abilities you have and can use (Abilities), what you current poses (Inventory), and the major story elements you have to complete (Quests).
After you finish the first part of Orientation, you will have been given an Orientation Packet. You will be given, and will find, many items in the game. You can Use, Sell or Drop most of them. Clicking on the 'Inventory' button at the top of your character sheet, you will be brought to a tab that shows what you have. The Orientation Packet should be one of the items. Clicking the 'Select' next to it shows more detail about it. Click the 'Use' button in the details. In the message pane (bottom left) it will tell you about how you used it, and what you got from it. Going back into your character sheet and inventory, you will see you have some new items. Most importantly, you have money now.
In the bottom left of the map of the tutorial is a shop. If you visit the shop with some money, will be given a list of items you can view and buy. Once you have bought some items, you can equip them in your character sheet by clicking the 'Equipment' button. Depending on what you bought you can equip them in the appropriate place. For example, a 'Cane', is a weapon and can be equipped in either hand.
As you go through the tutorial, you will eventually come to an event that has a Crazed Trainee. If you choose to fight, in the event, you will notice the left and right hand Attack buttons enable found in the action list on the left. During combat, this will happen. The items that are used for either hand are determined by what you equipped in your character sheet in the Equipment tab.
Attacking a Non-Playing character (NPC) can be easy or complex. You have many choices. You can either attack them with what you have in your hands, use an ability or item, or choose something from the available action list. NPCs react differently to everything. Most NPCs have weaknesses to different weapons, items and abilities, so trying different things out is recommended.
After you finish the tutorial, you will be brought the Macropolis. The first thing to do is to check your Quests tab in your character sheet. This is the first place you should go when you are lost, and wonder what you should do. The next thing is to see what events are available on the map page. Besides major quests, there will also be random and sub-quests events available.
While traveling and doing things, it will open up many new quests and events, and expose new adventures. The more you do, and how you do them, will determine what might happen next. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ever changing world of Urban Legions. But don't forget, you have a purpose, and there is a goal!
